Daniel de Arakal holds bachelor’s degrees in classical guitar performance and composition from Chapman University and a master’s degree in classical guitar performance from the University of Southern California. He has studied with world renowned guitarist and pedagogues, such as Scott Tennant, Martha Masters, Jack Sanders, and Jeff Cogan. Mr. de Arakal also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Chapman University.

Iren Arutyunyan holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in classical guitar performance from the University of Southern California. Mr. Arutyunyan began teaching guitar and music theory at an early age and works to educate a diverse group of middle-school and high-school students. 

 

From 2010-2014, she was involved in leading the guitar department for Youth Policy Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing enrichment activities to empower youth. She performs and teaches extensively in Southern California. Guitar Salon International and Cordoba Guitars have produced many of her performance videos and tutorials.

Duane Broberg

Duane Broberg

Duane Broberg holds an MFA in Jazz Studies from the University of California, Irvine and a bachelor's degree in music education from Florida International University. As a performing artist, Mr. Broberg has performed across the United States in festivals, concert halls, and clubs from Miami to New York to Los Angeles and many locales in between, performing with jazz luminaries such as Ira Sullivan, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Arturo Sandoval, and Kevin Mahogany, among others. As a recording artist, performing as Duane Allen, Mr. Broberg has an extensive discography as both a leader and a sideman. Many of his jazz recordings are produced by the Tritone label.

Mr. Broberg has been teaching guitar and general music for over twenty years in various music schools and conservatories. In addition to his work at OCSA, Mr. Broberg serves on the faculty at Cypress College in Cypress, California, and Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California.

Ryan Navales

Ryan Navales

Ryan Navales graduated from California Institute of the Arts with a master’s degree in jazz performance and is currently a freelance musician based in the Los Angeles area. As a performing artist, Mr. Navales has shared the stage with several jazz luminaries, including New York Voices, John Hollenbeck, John Clayton, Poncho Sanchez, Joe LaBarbera, Vinny Golia, and Alphonso Johnson. In addition to his live performance work, he has also recorded at Capitol Records and performed on a track with Freda Payne.

Mr. Navales currently teaches courses in repertoire, improvisation, and general jazz history. Additionally, Mr. Navales directs two of the OCSA Guitar Program’s elite ensembles: The Jazz/Contemporary Guitar Ensemble and the Fusion Ensemble.
